This is another good article about delayed cord clamping and the benefits to babies in the first minutes of life. On one hand the doctors say it benefits the baby greatly, and on the other hand they say its only beneficial for premature babies. In my view, all babies should be left alone at birth and given the best chance to begin life gently and with everything they need; including the extra 100mls of blood in the placenta and cord.

We are very lucky in Australia to have no law prohibiting us from taking home our placenta when our baby is born. In many US states, women are not able to take home their placenta. Seems like the benefits of consuming the placenta are starting to filter through. Have a read of this article from the Melbourne Age last week.
